Dogs are loyal companions. There’s a reason they’re known as man’s best friend. Sometimes though, they go above and beyond companionship and act as guardian angels.

German Shepherds, in particular, are known for doing the most to look out for their humans, and one German Shepherd is proving that in a viral video.

According to the American Kennel Club, German Shepherds are known to be loyal, confident, courageous, and steady.

They’re also known to be gentle family pets and steadfast guardians, even going as far as to “put their life on the line in defense of loved ones.”

That was seen perfectly in a video shared by TikTok user @flodaboy1 in mid-November.

In the video, you can see a young boy walking in a yard when a black dog suddenly comes charging at him. The dog is seemingly ready to attack, but a German Shepherd steps in to save the boy!

The German Shepherd heroically tosses the boy aside and puts himself in between the child and the dog. A small fight ensues before some adults notice and come running to help.

It’s hard to think about what might’ve happened if the German Shepherd hadn’t been there to protect the young child. We really don’t deserve our pets!
