Two choir boys wowed the audience with a unique and silly performance composed entirely of “meow” sounds.

While it sounds like satire, the piece dates back to the 1800s and is known as the “Duetto buffo di due Gatti,” or in English, the “Funny duet for two cats.”

According to All Music, it’s unclear who composed the piece, but many believe it was written in 1825 and draws principally on Gioachino Rossini’s 1816 opera Otello.

The piece is written for two singers and a piano.

In a video shared on YouTube, you can enjoy to young choir boys taking on the piece accompanied by a panio. As they take turns “meowing” their way through the song, the audience erupts in laughter.

The video has already been viewed more than 2 million times and counting! People are touched at both the humor of the piece and how well the boys performed it, considering neither broke into laughter or stopped singing.

Some of the “meow” notes are long and drawn out, while others are short and sweet. Some genuinely sound like a cat’s meow!

It’d be hard to sing “meows” seriously but these two completely nailed the assignment!
