A dozen neglected pit bulls were rescued just in time by The Humane Society of Greater Dayton.

Last month, the Ohio shelter received a report of dogs living at an abandoned home, so they sent a team to investigate.

Rescuers arrived to find twelve malnourished pit bulls tied up outside on heavy chains living in deplorable conditions.

“Each one of them was tied up with heavy, industrial-strength chain that weighed them down. With temperatures nearing 90 degrees, the dogs were extremely dehydrated and malnourished. No food or water was found anywhere and you could see the ribs on many of them,” stated rescuers.

The dogs were offered water before they were freed from the chains and brought back to the shelter to be examined.

One of the dogs was pregnant and gave birth shortly after arriving at the shelter. Mama and her puppies are now bonding at a loving foster home.

The other dogs have been devouring nutritious food as volunteers and staff shower them with love. After spending weeks in the shelter recovering, they are now ready to find forever homes.

The shelter wants to find the perfect home for each dog, so they are running a week-long adoption special called “Pick a Pit from Our Pumpkin Patch”. The adoption fee will be $100 for pit bulls at the shelter through October 31st.

“Although we are offering a special fee on these dogs, our adoption application process still remains the same so that we can ensure all of these great dogs get the loving homes they deserve,” shared the shelter.

People thanked the shelter for saving the sweet dogs and hope the cruel person who abandoned them is found and prosecuted.

Pit bulls are often overlooked at shelters due to the stigma that surrounds them. Many see them as “vicious” dogs but anyone who has one knows they are loving companions. Consider adopting a pittie and see just how much love they have to give.
