Giving up a puppy is never an easy decision, but sometimes it’s the most compassionate choice.
When 12-year-old Andres left his puppy in a box outside the Xollin animal shelter in Mexico, he did it from a place of love.
As the shelter shared on Facebook, the child didn’t just leave his puppy in a box on its own, the puppy was accompanied by a stuffed animal and a heartbreaking letter.
As the letter explained, the boy decided to give up his puppy because his father was violent and had kicked the small dog.
The letter read, “My name is Andrés and I’m 12-years-old. My mom and I decided to leave him to you. All of this is behind my dad’s back, because he was thinking of selling him. But he is always beating and kicking the dog. Once he kicked him so hard that his little tail got injured. I hope you can help him and take care of him. Here is a plush toy so he won’t forget me.”
The puppy now is now named Rene and he’s living his best life with the rescue!
According to The Mirror, a spokesperson with the rescue said that they had to take the puppy to the vet and he ended up having a fractured tail and needing some medical attention.
However, overall, he’s in great health and is adjusting well to his new life.
The rescue shared on Facebook that Rene is now living along 203 other rescue dogs and he’s loving life.
According to the post, Rene is “greedy, playful and loving,” and his personality has dubbed him the nickname “baby pig.”
While Rene remained at the rescue, he’s happy there and seems to be thriving with the other pups and volunteers.
