We sometimes hear about dogs that are abandoned and they go through such a difficult time that they almost lose hope.

In many cases, if they are given the proper TLC from caring individuals, they may come to have a good, long, and happy life.

One dog that was abandoned and certainly needed some TLC was Avellana. Like many dogs of her breed, she suffered at the hands of her owner, who was a hunter.

When Avellana was no longer able to hunt any longer because she was paralyzed, she was abandoned by her owner in Spain.

Fortunately, there were those who were willing to come in and help. In particular, Galgos del Sol is a rescue dedicated to helping dogs of that breed. They are based in Spain and they save galagos and podencos breeds.

Of course, Galgos del Sol has quite a job ahead of them because according to their Facebook group, there are many who are abandoned every year. They said:

“With tens of thousands of galgos and podencos abandoned every year…we combine rescuing as many as possible but still manage to maintain a good quality of living where the dogs get lots of love & attention, rehabilitation, vet care and time out the kennels. It’s a delicate balance which I think we do well.”

Fortunately, they were also there for Avellana. Even though her former owner abandoned her due to her immune disease that caused inflammation of her nervous system, the rescue was there to help her with physiotherapy and the exercises she needed.

It took some time but eventually, she was able to move her limbs and with a lot of work, she even started to walk again. Avellana now lives with Anne in a loving home where she can play with other dogs and live the life she should live.
