When Robert Brantley, of Louisiana, was driving to the shooting range he wasn’t expecting to save a life, let alone 13 lives.
As he was driving, he noticed a kitten on the side of the road and knew he had to stop to help him. He was afraid he wouldn’t survive on his own, and his wife had been wanting a cat so he figured it was the perfect opportunity to bring home a new pet.
But when he picked up the little kitten, 12 more kittens began running toward him from the brush on the side of the road. They began circling around him, and he knew he couldn’t leave them all there.
Brantley struggled to get all 13 kittens into his Honda hatchback, but he refused to give up. Once they were all safe, he brought them home and promised to take care of them while finding them each a loving forever home.
The kittens are being fed well, getting much-needed baths, and have been enjoying playing around his house.
Brantley posted videos of the kittens on his Instagram, one of them “ambushing” him on the street, and another of him getting them all into his car. The videos went viral and thousands of people from all over the country, and even the world, reached out to him about adopting a kitten.
Most of the kittens have already been adopted, but a few still need some more care from a local veterinarian.
“We found some good people locally that want ‘em, and I know that they’re all good people and they’re not doing anything bad with them,” he told NPR. “We haven’t given any of them away yet – they’re probably a little too young.”
