Millions of students graduate from U.S. colleges each year. Down in Austin, Texas, this year’s graduating class also included one curious cat.
According to Fox 7 Austin, the 1.5-year-old cat donned a miniature graduation robe and cap to “graduate” alongside her owner, Francesca Bourdier, from the University of Texas at Austin.
According to Bourdier, Suki faithfully attended each one of her lectures, which were largely conducted online over Zoom. Suki was such a good student that she never missed a class!
“I was pretty much at my apartment for most of the time and I had my cat next to me,” Bourdier told Fox 7 Austin. “Whenever I would have my Zoom lecture on, it’s like she almost wanted to listen in on it, and she would always just sit by my laptop.”
As graduation approached, Bourdier realized that Suki deserved to graduate, too. Not only did Suki have a spotless attendance record, the cat had been a steady companion during years of remote study. “I kind of wanted to celebrate her and kind of have her along with me,” Suki’s owner said.
Yes, my cat attended every zoom lecture I had so we will BOTH be graduating from THE University of Texas at Austin together 😂😂#UT22 #Texasex pic.twitter.com/v6YFlZZWAW

Bourdier found a cat-sized graduation robe and cap online that sort of matched her own graduation attire, then the pair posed for graduation photos together. Suki didn’t get an official diploma, of course, but her owner is just glad that her faithful cat got to participate in her big day.
“A lot of people relate to having their pet with them, you know, attending their Zoom lectures because everyone was pretty much at home,” Bourdier said. “She’s just kind of my special graduate.”
