63-year-old Sherry Noppe frequently enjoys the trails around George Bush Park in Houston, Texas.

The 7,800-acre park has over 11 miles of walking trails that she ventures on with her dog, a black labrador named Max.

One day while out walking, though, Sherry failed to return home. Naturally, her three kids became worried and sent out a search party but after nearly three days of searching, they came up empty-handed.

Sherry’s adult kids and the volunteers refused to give up hope that they’d find Sherry somewhere in the park and they continued searching well into the night.

Miraculously, around 3:00 am, the search team heard something: a bark.

Knowing that Sherry had her dog with her when she vanished, the search crew followed the sound of the barking and found Sherry, alive and well!

Officials shared in a tweet that the woman was found at around 3:00AM on Friday “by a group of tireless volunteers and deputies who were alerted by the sound of her dog, Max, barking in the woods.”

In an interview with KHOU 11, Noppe’s daughter, Courtney, credited the dog with saving her mom’s life. She said, “Oh my God he saved her life…He truly saved her life.”

Rescuers found Sherry and Max around 50-100 yards off the trial in what Courtney described as a “heavily wooded area.” It’s unclear how or why Sherry became lost of unable to get home, but she was recently diagnosed with dementia that could’ve played a role in the incident.

While Sherry was understandably shaken up by the incident, she’s expected to a make a full and speedy recovery. As for Max, Courtney shared that he is also getting plenty of love and care after spending 3 days in the woods. He’s getting a veterinary examination along with a “good old bath.”
