Buffy was only a kitten when she lost her eye and was thrown out with the trash. Thankfully, somebody found the Russian kitten in a garbage can and brought her to a rescue center.
“Someone thought I was garbage and threw me away when I was little,” the one-eyed rescue cat “wrote” on Instagram. “Fortunately, another generous or actually normal person found me in the garbage can and rescued me. I was very frightened.”
After receiving medical care and vaccinations, Buffy was transferred to Germany for adoption, where the one-eyed cat spent time on a farm with a German family. But the household was too loud for the rescued cat, who was frightened by all the noise.
Thankfully, Buffy was rescued again–this time by a woman looking to adopt a cat who needed a forever home.
When Nina drove out to the farm to meet Buffy, she could instantly tell the cat was uncomfortable in her current situation.
“The woman who was taking care of her had a small child which was screaming and yelling the whole time. I could tell Buffy hated it,” wrote Nina, who drove out to meet Buffy after seeing the one-eyed cat’s picture on eBay. “She seemed very scared and tried to hide most of the time.”
But although she was shy, Buffy allowed Nina to pet her a little bit. “The woman told me how she was in the evenings when it was quiet, she would always come and cuddle and look for company,” Nina explained to The Animal Rescue Site.
Nina adopted the one-eyed cat after hearing Buffy’s sad story about losing her eye and being dumped in a garbage can. After losing one of her own cats in a car accident, Nina was eager to adopt a homeless animal who needed a family.
Now Buffy has gone from left for dead to a loving forever home, where the one-eyed cat has blossomed.
“She is a little sunshine, talkative, playful, loves to eat, very clingy, and likes to sleep on my head or pillow close to me at night,” said Nina, who also owns a second cat named Pumpkin.
Pumpkin is much larger than Buffy, but the one-eyed cat still loves to boss her big brother around.
“With our tomcat pumpkin she is very bossy,” said Nina. “At first, he let her dominate him but finally found out that he is much bigger than her. Now he shows her once in a while who is the real boss.”
But Buffy’s favorite thing about her new home–which includes a garden where she loves basking in the sun–is getting pets from her favorite human. See how the one-eyed rescue cat melts when Nina scratches her ears!
