A sweet dog received the transformation of a lifetime after being left on the streets for an entire year.

According to The Dodo, the dog was abandoned by his owners when they moved the year prior. With no family or place to call home, the little poodle was left with nowhere to go but the streets.

Thankfully, the Southern California rescue group Hope For Paws stepped in and set out to rescue the little pooch.

When the rescuers arrived, they were horrified at what they found. The poor pup, who they named Theo, was covered from head to toe in thick, heavy matted dreadlocks. It couldn’t be comfortable or healthy for the dog and it was clear that a year on the streets had done a lot of damage to his spirits.

Theo was so untrusting of people, he bolted whenever a rescuer approached. Eventually, they were able to corner him and get a leash on him.

Once secured in the car, Theo began to relax a little. He enjoyed being pet, and you could see a semblance of contentment in his eyes.

Once back at the rescue, the real work began: Getting Theo a much-needed haircut and bath! It wasn’t easy, but rescuers slowly worked to remove all of the dreadlocks and comb out the remaining tanlges. Once they were done, the dog looked completely new. It was hard to recognize him!

Theo seemed depressed and uneasy at first, but rescuers worked with him until he was confident enough to join a foster home while awaiting adoption. The little poodle fit right into his foster family, getting along well with the family’s other dogs and people.

It was such a great fit, in fact, that little Theo ended up being a foster fail! The family adopted him and he’s now living his absolute best life.
