Bok Nal season in South Korea is a tradition that commemorates the hot summer months with the consumption of a variety of soups.

Sadly, dog meat is the main ingredient of these soups, which locals believe provides healing and immune boosting properties.

The dogs that they use for their soups are kept at dog meat farms, where they live in deplorable conditions. They are crammed into dirty wire cages that are much too small for them, where they’re forced to live among their own feces, with little food or water.

Once they are purchased, they are transported to meat sellers and restaurants, where they will eventually be slaughtered for their meat.

Luckily, 21 dogs who were given that horrible fate were rescued by Humane Society International, with help from Korean K9 Rescue.

The dogs were saved from a dog meat farm in Ansan City, South Korea, after authorities shut down the farm.

The neglected animals were spared their horrible fate just three days before Bok Nal season began.

Rescuers gave them clean water and food, which was probably the first time they’ve gotten either of these things.

They were removed from their filthy, painful cages and carefully placed into carriers for transport to the United States and Canada

Once they arrive, they will be examined and receive medical treatment if needed before being placed into different rescues or shelters. Once they are ready, they will be available for adoption.
