A lot of things changed in 2020, but one thing remained the same – Americans love Labrador retrievers.
American Kennel Club just released their list of most popular dog breeds of 2020 based on registration statistics.
The Labrador retriever was named top dog for the 30th consecutive year! But for the first time, the French bulldog climbed its way to number 2.
While some breeds gained in popularity, others declined. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi was knocked down to 11th spot by the Dachshund who took 10th.
Rescued is our favorite breed and all of the most popular dog breeds can be found at shelters and rescues across the country.

1. Labrador Retriever
Friendly, loyal, and laidback are just a few words that describe these amazing dogs. They are popular family dogs and there are so many patiently waiting in shelters for a forever home.

2. French Bulldog
These adorable dogs win over the hearts of everyone they meet with their large “bat ears”, smushed faces, and entertaining personalities.

She loves to play fetch and is quick on her wheels. “This bright-eyed, always alert, and too cute sweetie girl will just lift your spirit. 3. German Shepherd
This breed is highly intelligent, courageous, and makes an amazing family pet.
Meet Ezra. The one-year-old pup gets along well with kids and other dogs, but needs a playmate. He is full of energy and would do best in a home with a fenced yard. “He’s a great car rider and quickly becoming a good leash walker. He loves splashing around in water and playing ball. 4. Golden Retriever
Athletic, cheerful, and ideal companions are words people use to describe their beloved golden retrievers.
Meet Perci. The young pup is believed to be a golden/collie mix and is absolutely beautiful. 5. Bulldog

6. Poodle
One of the oldest dog breeds is still a popular one due to their good looks, intelligence, and friendly personalities.
Meet Bartlett. This large fella is looking for a patient family who will show him how to properly walk on a leash and how to interact with people and other dogs. He was found as a stray with a matted coat before Carolina Poodle Rescue took him in.
“Bartlett loves to play with his human friends. He’ll chase after a ball that you throw but won’t pick it up or bring it back. He enjoys the running and the chase but the retrieving is a bit of a mystery to him.”
7. Beagle
This breed loves to follow their nose and were originally bred to hunt rabbits.
Meet Jasper. He’s a vocal boy who loves attention. His foster family said, “He is definitely a snuggler and loves attention and affection. He is a people dog above everything — he follows us around, sleeps on the floor next to our desks while we work and tries to climb into our laps constantly (he thinks he’s a lap dog even though he’s a little large for that!).”

9. German Shorthaired Pointer
These affectionate dogs make great family pets but can be a bit rambunctious at times.
Meet Loki. “I get along with just about anyone, but when I see a squirrel run up a tree, I get pretty excited and try to follow them up the tree, just to make friends with them, of course!”

10. Dachshund
Dachshunds, also known as sausage or wiener dogs, were bred to hunt badgers but now make amazing family companions. Don’t let their small size fool you – they have huge personalities.
