A lot of things changed in 2020, but one thing remained the same – Americans love Labrador retrievers.

American Kennel Club just released their list of most popular dog breeds of 2020 based on registration statistics.

The Labrador retriever was named top dog for the 30th consecutive year! But for the first time, the French bulldog climbed its way to number 2.

While some breeds gained in popularity, others declined. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi was knocked down to 11th spot by the Dachshund who took 10th.

Rescued is our favorite breed and all of the most popular dog breeds can be found at shelters and rescues across the country.

1. Labrador Retriever

Friendly, loyal, and laidback are just a few words that describe these amazing dogs. They are popular family dogs and there are so many patiently waiting in shelters for a forever home.

4. Golden Retriever

Athletic, cheerful, and ideal companions are words people use to describe their beloved golden retrievers.

Meet Bartlett. This large fella is looking for a patient family who will show him how to properly walk on a leash and how to interact with people and other dogs. He was found as a stray with a matted coat before Carolina Poodle Rescue took him in.

“Bartlett loves to play with his human friends. He’ll chase after a ball that you throw but won’t pick it up or bring it back. He enjoys the running and the chase but the retrieving is a bit of a mystery to him.”

7. Beagle

This breed loves to follow their nose and were originally bred to hunt rabbits.

Meet Jasper. He’s a vocal boy who loves attention. His foster family said, “He is definitely a snuggler and loves attention and affection. He is a people dog above everything — he follows us around, sleeps on the floor next to our desks while we work and tries to climb into our laps constantly (he thinks he’s a lap dog even though he’s a little large for that!).”
